Tried that for a while. Rubbing some oil between fingertips it did seem to have a slipperier feeling than motor oil / 3-in-1-type oil, felt more like Finish Line Green.

I found it quite messy though, worse than the FL at picking up muck.

Try Squirt Lube. Biodegradable wax.

Google for retailers but be warned, search for 'squirtlube' not 'squirt'. Definitely not the same stuff at all ;-)

I get all the stuff (including beeswax) for my homebrew mixture from ebay sellers.

I've got reservations about dry lubes and their lack of mobility but that sounds worth a go at a fiver!

Anyone tried this chain wax spray.
