Brake mounts (unused) - what alernatives to bung them up ?

Post by Manc33 »

The cheapest pair of rubber bung things I can find to put in my v-brake holes (I am using disc brakes) cost five quid for a pair?

Ludicrous.

It would be cheaper to get a pair of black nylon M8 x 12mm bolts and it would possibly look cooler.

As suggested in another thread - for a couple of quid more you could fit a mini rack to them and they wouldn't look so superfluous.

If you're being quoted a fiver you're looking in the wrong places...

I'd go with the googly eyes though. ;)

Don't know, would nylon number plate screws be the same thread?

Yeah but red/blue Loctite/Bossil them in and tighten to 12Nm+, if one came loose it could lock up the front wheel.

I am just going to leave mine and let the elements ruin them.

Thanks to whoever renamed the thread properly, I posted in anger (at the price of 2 bits of rubber).

EDIT: Get these and spray them black 8)

..... plus the cost of the spray paint and a suitable primer for plastic!

Hmmm.... I think you're going to have to explain that one to me... as far as I can see both the brake pivots and front wheel are parallel with each other. So if a bolt does work loose and start to unscrew, It's just going to project forward a bit further but not into the path of the front wheel, as the direction of the unscrewing bolt will continue to remain parallel with that of the front wheel

In theory but I wouldn't risk it. Or just use plastic screws that, if they get jammed up in between the front hub/fork or in the disc brake rotor, will get sheared apart instead of locking up the front wheel, or snapping a spoke, or breaking the disc rotor, or damaging the front hub.
