All fixed thanks for all the comments even though it was a waste of your time with my stupidity!! Winter bike is now ready for the road again
Re: New rear gear cable fitted
Cack handed wouldn't be in it, with the previous cable head still in place I jammed the new head in shifter so hard at the top of the ratchet thing that I now can't get it out, I have just watched a video on how to strip the lever whilst at the same time priced new ones online for a mechanic to fit..... wish me luck!!!
I did that once - I made a wire hook and using that while operating the lever I managed to get it out.
Best of luck

What did you do wrong?...………

A couple comments above. And I had to strip the entire lever in order to get the jammed cable head out of where I had forced it into. Lesson learnt hopefully

Not quite!! Now the bike won't go into the 3 big rings at the bike and also there is half a tooth movement in those rings if anyone has any ideas??

Disconnect the cable and see if the dérailleur will move, by hand, all the way over.
Pull the cable inner, again by hand, and check you get the right amount of "clicks" in the STI.
Regarding the cassette - are the 3 sprockets on a "carrier" ?
May just need the cassette tightening up.
You'll never know if you don't try it.
