I've broken alloy posts (plural) and suspect an SQR clamp/bag played a part in one. But I'd say it would be wise to be cautious about clamping to any thin walled tube, of any material. And it would be daft to do it in a way that scratches the post, because that weakens it.

FWIW I used a small Carradice saddle bag on a carbon seatpost for about a year. One day I hopped on and crash, the saddle was no longer there, just jaggy carbon fibre pointing up. Luckily I hadn't put may full weight down on the remains of the seat post. I hate to think if I had.

I would never now put a saddle bag on a carbon post.

Pretty sure it isn't Alpkit gear but I've not worked out what it is yet.

assuming the carbon post is heavy enough (i.e. not too thin walled) would a thin hard plastic sheeth between the post and clamp which stops the clamp creating a stressor and spreads the clamping force not be a solution here?

Bagman 2 or a rear rack would be best if the bag is heavy and/or the seat pin is thought suspect

cheers
