Diameter Adjustable bottle cages - what options are there?

Post by tommydog »

I am looking for a diameter adjustable bottle cage, mainly to accommodate a few retro flasks that I have. All these flasks tend to be a lot slimmer than standard bottle sizes. Although I would like something that can adapt to take a normal size bottle as well.

I particularly like the below designs, but what I don't like their plastic construction. Does anyone do anything like these in metal?

Whenever I've used smaller diameter flasks(usually s/steel) in the past,I've always used a toe strap to secure them to a standard cage, either threaded between the two fixing bolts or around the cage and frame tube.
I've always found this a very good and secure method even when riding rough off road paths and single track and never felt the need for anything special.

There is monki cage:- http://www.freeparable.com/portfolio/monkii-cage-l/ which is quick release but you're buying into a 'system' .

My current flask fits perfectly into cage with just a bit of inner tube over it to kill any rattling sound. Earlier flasks I used an old sock over them to fill the void.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Out of interest what do people think is the better product - The Monkii or Bikebuddy? Can both be used on the underside of the frame to hold the bottle securely?

I am really coming round to the type of system used on the bikebuddy and Monki - is there anything else on the market like this?

I quite often do that with Lucozade Sport bottles on Audax rides.
