What's going on with the roller and teeth on the inner ring and a cam lobe on the BB spindle ,described as
a ' powercam '.
There's an album of pictures in the 2nd flikr link.
Edit: some info about Houdaille EX Power Cam here..similar, same ??
It still doesn't quite explain the indexing mechanism in the original picture.

Re: before indexing....
A search for Powercam Crankset brings up many hits.
It seems to be a device for advancing and retarding the chainrings relative to the cranks.

Re: before indexing....
another image of a powercam crankset
seems mechanically unrelated to the gear levers, except for the fact that there are two slightly weird ideas on one bike....
cheers

I can't - the window that tells me what gear I am in faces away from me. I only ever know what rear gear I'm in when I'm in 9 and need a higher gear, or in 1 and need a lower gear.
I can see the chainset out in front of me, but the rear is behind my seat, and enclosed by bags/rack, so it takes a concerted effort to turn and check if there is anything clogging the derailleur, let alone trying to see which sprocket is carrying the chain.
A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
There are two kinds of people in this world: those can extrapolate from incomplete data.

Quite right - waste of good cable!

On a 2nd look could the V notches be for the rear mech indexing and the bolts a means of indexing the front mech with a bit of trimming.
the bike has the latest wi-fi disc brakes. get with it daddio
that's old skool grandpa, mag braking with thought control activation is were it's at
