Campagnolo Racing T rear derailleur spring replacement

Post by garygkn »

Hi,
I believe I have a 2002 Campagnolo Racing T rear derailleur the spring has failed I'm not sure what replacement I would need or if the springs are still available?

I have found a
Campagnolo RD-RE013 Rear Mech Spring

Not sure if this would work?
Any feedback much appreciated.

Thanks in advance to all.

RD-RE013 is a very little spring that holds the cable adjustment screw so it doesn't move.
Is that what you want?

RD-RE013 ? isn't it the spring that sits under the barrel adjuster?

cheers

Thanks for the feedback.
The blow up diagram helps I'll do a search for those big springs. The deraillure isn't to hand until next week. The bike is 2002 so it could well have been fitted with 2001 components.

2001 lists 'racing T' RD. It (like most other campag RDs around that time) uses springs

RD-RE017 in the upper pivot
RD-RE008 in the lower pivot

cheers

The spring in the lower pivot is very unlikely to fail, usually what you get is muck and subsequent corrosion in this pivot. Almost always, removing the cage and exposing the pivot (5mm allen key for the high range, or a clip for the medium-low ones) allows to clean and remove the corrosion with fine emery paper. Make sure no part is lost, there is a shim inside that is easy to forget! and use lots of grease.
The main pivot, by the mech hanger, that actually gets play and you can get the "mount sleeve" (RD-Re116) to shear. This is not difficult to replace, it's easier if you use a 5mm allen key in a vice, to support the main pivot and pressing down all. The mount sleeve has to preload the spring while you are pushing down, this can be tricky unless you use the right tool: a 10mm spanner with a little notch filed on it

I have taken the lower spring out and it looks misshapen. I'll get it photographed and uploaded.

So RE116 is easy enough to replace but the cheapest i've found is over £40! It's as cheap to buy a used mech.
Convention? what's that then?

I'm sure you can find it for less than that
