Fitting SKS Commuter mudguards - sliding bridge too wide?

Post by Boring_Username »

Just bought a set of SKS Commuter mudguards, 60mm width for 26" wheels

The metal "sliding bridge" for the rear guard sits a good 10mm wider than the guards, with the lowest section of the bridges pointing at 11 o'clock and 1 o'clock (relative to mounting hole at 12 o'c).

I was assuming I should gently squeeze the bridge closed so as to grip the guards and have the lowest sections at more like 8 o'c and 4 o'c.

But I read on the instructions supplied with the packaging the stern warning "DO NOT CRUSH THE EDGES OF THE SLIDING BRIDGE ONTO THE GUARD. Use the fixation points of the reflector or brake.". I'm not sure what this means exactly, but it doesn't seem to support my initial assumption.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks

I made mine a close fit but not squeezed so it grips the guard.
