Last Orders for 28t, 30t & 32t 8-speed Campy Sprockets

What it says in the title.
I'm going to try to order some of these, in 2.0 mm thick mild steel, from my local waterjet cutter next week.
He quoted me £10 each a while back.

I don't have the facilities to harden and temper tool steel. I'm assuming mild steel is harder wearing that al alloy chainwheels.
Do you have any better suggestions?

Hi,
I-must admit I don't know enough about water jet cutting technology.
some aluminium alloys certainly be better wearing than mild steel I would've thought?
Having said that if you look at how long granny chain rings last, the material will probably be not ideal for rear sprockets.
What's the reason for the Post this subject?
Sorry to poor water on the idea, can we expand And the whys and wherefores for attempting to make these sprockets?

AFAIK Campagnolo only go up to 26t on an 8 speed cassette.

I don't know much about steels & alloy hardness but I had problems with a steel 26T granny ring that kept burring under the pressure from the chain & causing bad, repeated chainsuck, especially with a new chain.

A similar material as a cassette sprocket may respond differently, I don't know.

The permanent solution in my case was to switch to a TA Zicral one which has worn well.

Not particularly a Campag man but I had an 8 speed all alu 14-30 some years back, brilliant with the half step plus granny that I ran it with, though it had a campag locking not sure if it was actually made by them.
That 8 speed was on a par shifting wise to Dura Ace 11 and so far ahead of Shimano at the time. Their reluctance to design more user friendly cassettes and chainsets has cost them hundreds of millions over the years IMHO.

My Campag 8 speed Veloce and Shimano 8 speed STX-RC bikes shift much more sweetly than the Shimano 105 10 speed setup on my Pinarello.

I'd like to always buy Italian but, as you say, they seem to be reluctant to design for non-racers, although there are plenty of older Italian cyclo-tourists in Italy. Maybe the next generation owners of Campagnolo will see the light someday soon.

campag's triples have never been big sellers and prior to that campag took a hiding when they tried to compete with shimano for the MTB market. Little wonder then that they have chosen to concentrate on the needs of 'racers' (real and wannabe alike). When Campag finished with square taper BB systems on their best groupsets, they must have had lots of unsold ST triple chainsets; for a long time you could buy one as NOS for about £50 or so.
I agree it is annoying that they have not made larger sprockets, though they haven't made mechs for them either.....

They made the mechs, the 8/910 speed long cage mechs could handle 24/30 easily.
You can buy a 11speed campag Athena triple set up for £300 minus the brakes/cassette, it's very tempting!

I don't know how much you're paying to have these made, but I'd be scouring ebay for NOS Marchisio Aviotek. That way you know they'll work and wear well. They only went up to 30 though.

Another solution of course is to replace the rear hub so that it will take sprockets that are more readily available.
