I like the frame and I like the 32c tyres on the 'hybrid wheels' but I don't like the 1 x 7 gears, horrible shifter, 14-34 mega-range freewheel and nutted rear wheel.

Then dont buy it...
I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my LG-H930 using hovercraft full of eels.

Tyre clearance=mudguard clearance?
Does it have long dropouts so one may upgrade to fixie?

Entertainer, juvenile, curmudgeon, PoB, 30120
Cycling-of course, but it is far better on a Gillott

I mean it's not even a post with a question or a piece of info or anything. Its not buying advice or info wanted. It's just a post complaining about the specs of a bike.peetee wrote:ross.anderson.58 wrote:Then dont buy it...

You do seem to have overlooked that I actually liked a few things about the spec's.

1x7 gears will work if you don't have hills to contend with. Why buy gears you don't need?

It has a reasonable gear range anyway, you could always lower it by fitting a smaller front chainwheel.
Looks like a decent no nonsense bike

When I opened this post I thought it was a new product line catching the 1x wave but I can now see that it's the exact opposite and very much the end of the product line (and the of the B'Twin brand in general I understand).
Anyway, it's just the frameset I fancy for use as a winter bike using up parts from the spares bin.
I've noticed the flat bar version uses exactly the same frameset and is further reduced to £199.99 (medium only) so I've just ordered one and will move the flat bar components from it onto another frameset to build up a bit of an 'errands bike'.

They should name it the B'Twin Cambridge. Perfect for around these parts where crossing one railway bridge doubles the amount of climbing on a cross city ride. If they sold it with a pre-rusted chain and kicked the wheels out of true from day one, they'd really be on the money.

You could change the gear levers for bar end levers,
add a 11 -42 cassette and have a passable touring / gravel bike.
Or you could buy a second hand Coix de fer for similar money?!
Cheers James

It's taken me a while to build it up but this is going to be my commuter bike starting from tomorrow. I moved the flat bar components that came on my Triban onto another frame and sold that on. The wheels and groupset came off my tired-looking Giant Defy and I bought some new SKS mudguards for it - building it up this morning and giving it a shakedown ride this afternoon. It looks a bit brutal and is very heavy but it rides OK - better than expected, even with puncture resistant tyres and slime-filled tubes. I just need to trim off those mudguard stays and transfer my lights over.
