Carradice bagman dimensions

Postby TimDoran » 22 Aug 2019, 8:22pm

Hi all.
I am currently sewing a long flap style saddle bag. Photos to follow when I have done enough posts? Anyway I need to know how far apart the bagman zip ties are to set the holes in the bag. I have one on order but want to crack on with the project.

Thanks in advance for any shared wisdom

Assuming you mean the Bagman QR, on mine the adaptor zip tie channels are 117 mm apart c-to-c, and are sized to take a 6mm zip tie.

Thanks very much. Really helpful. I did mean the bagman qr like this: https://www.spacycles.co.uk/m2b0s73p307 ... n-QR-Clamp

And here are some work in progress pictures. Not very experienced with sewing so don't look too closely at the stitches.

Stitching looks fine to me and good use of the bulldog clips.

I have finished the bag. I have to say it has come out far better than I thought it would.

Congrats are in order and if it will always sit on a rack it's probably a better design than my Carradice which is shaped when viewed end on to fit in snugly against the seatpost. For what it's worth the straps on mine are 4.5 inches apart. Wonder when that standard was established and by which company? BTW do you have a use in mind for the d-rings on the pockets - they look new to me.

I should have said that most of the design was inspired by this: https://bikepacking.com/gear/diy-longflap-saddlebag-minimalist-bike-touring
That design has the d loops on the pockets. I thought it would be good to sinch the sides inwards to improve weather protection. Only time will tell.

It sits very happily on my rack. I need a rack for this kind of reason.

It took almost 2-3 hours per night for 3 weeks, so costing that up it would be more than a designer handbag (but much cooler obviously)

Thanks for the kind words.

As a student I carried a 30ft yacht mast on my bike for 10 miles
8x4 sheets of plywood too.
Walking obviously!

The last time I tried riding with timber like that strapped to the bike it shimmied like mad. I thought a trip to the timber merchant would be easy. It took me a long time walking home!
