I agree and as it's spent on something you enjoy then it's not wasted.

:D :D
Off out on them in an hour or so, over into the English hills on the edge of Dartmoor.

I must keep an eye on the temperature before leaving. Sandals, or shoes and socks?

Easy.
Wear shoes & socks and take the sandals for when it warms up.

For me this morning in Scotland it was easy rain gear and thermals.

Hope you enjoyed the ride.

Campagnolo of course.
Victory that I bought in 1986.

This one is spot-on like mine. Mine is 26.2mm of course, as I have a Reynolds 531c frame.

I wore shoes and socks.
It was chilly - very chilly down in the valley. Wore a base layer under my LS top but still in shorts.
By the time I climbed up out of the valley, the temp increased from 8degC to 18degC.
I was rather overdressed!

New pedals worked a treat. No difference to the other pair of course .............. but that's the way I want it.
Standardisation of your pedal system.

Speedplay Frogs .............. HIGHLY recommended. You hardly know you're clipped in.

ATACs for the win every time. I have a set of Links on the Hybrid of Doom which are flat on one side and have ATAC retention bars on the other, and ATAC XC pedals on the MTB & road bike.

Always is for 531C and 531DB. Other Reynolds tubes may vary (I've got a plain-gauge 531 frame that's 26.4, IIRC, so I'd expect that to be standard for that particular tubing).
