Cateye computer question

Post by Grandad »

I'd like to be able to record individual sections of a ride and the accumulated total of just these. Is there a way to do this on a very basic wireless computer? I'm not into smartphones, GPS or other modern technology.

You need to provide the model of you computer.

If it is very basic, it is doubtful it has that option
I wish it were as easy as riding a bike

Pen and paper.

Stop at end of section and record.

Continue.

My Cateyes wouldn't allow anything more sophisticated.

Am I missing something here ? Your odometer reading will give accumulated reading ( I usually zero my ancient wired Cateye at the start of a tour ) and the trip distance can be reset as and when required.

Furthermore, some computers including Cateye models have two trip computers that can be used flexibly to increase your options.

We’d need detailed information to give better suggestions. For example, could you treat your “individual sections of a ride” as laps and add up the lap total manually at the end? If so, a computer with a lap function may work (depends on how it’s implemented).

And what do you mean by “record” and “accumulated total”? Distance? Time? Max speed? Average cadence? Average heart rate? Etc., etc.

When riding the e-bike I want to separate out miles using the motor and miles using just leg power. Perhaps the easiest way is to use 2 computers, one always running and switching the other one on and off when using the motor.

Or do a post ride map plot and note the mileage at the start and finish of each climb. Did this yesterday: 47-6.

Some Cateye cycle computers have an A & B wheel setting. It is normally easy to switch mid-ride

Even a low end GPS will have a lap button. My old Garmin 200 has one. Just press the button where you want to start/stop a segment, and at the end of the ride you'll have the stats for the whole ride plus stats for each segment where you pressed the lap button.
