Please post some more photos. I've got a Peugeot from 1979 and I might have an idea on the model or vintage. As Brucey says the bike is probably from the late 70's and the parts are likely to be French dimensions. The picture of the seatpost he posted is identical to mine except for the black on it.

In from sea today so will get some pics up at some stage.

Re brakes, definately Mafac I'd say..
If I remember correctly, the brake arms are quite flexy, so set pads front end a bit too low, then things flex to the correct position when you put the brakes on.
If the old pads have gone hard (rim wear, low friction/poor braking) but you want to keep the original shoes, Koolstop do Mafac copy pads to fit the old shoes https://www.ambadistribution.com/produc ... tegory=276 (link is to a trade only site, but it shows you the details).

combination of metal head badge and 'TI' on transfers means, I think, that it is from 1977, 1978, or 1979.
Hubs look like Maillard/Normandy large flange ones. If so they will have a date mark.
You have sprint wheels (with nasty rusty spokes) and tubs there. Only careful examination /measurement will tell you which threads etc are French spec.
cheers

Please post a photo of the chainset
I bought a new Peugeot in 1979 but it was not quite the same, in AK light blue, it was available in gold too, and I think silver
Peugeot must have produced many different models
Was it usual to sell bikes with French threads in the UK?

He wants to use pretty much daily so the wheels will probs be replaced with something more modern but try to look much the same,or fit tyres to these wheels if poss. The diameter of the seat stock looks to be 26mm. Ill look for a serial number on the bike and wheels tomorrow. Think probs best to measure cables and try to replace them that way. 28" wheels seem hard to get tyres for atm.
Re: Peugeot with Reynolds 531 frame tubes ( info sought )
Do people here think a wheel rebuild with the existing hubs is a goer? And what size rim would be best? Changing rim size and doing away with the need for tubs is possible, making tyre choice easier, but the question arises of whether a particular rim size will work with those brakes. I'm guessing that modern hubs won't fit.
That is a nice old bike but it could easily become a money pit.

Re: Peugeot with Reynolds 531 frame tubes ( info sought )
eh? Sprint rims have the same OD as 700C rims and a wheel swap doesn't even require the brake blocks to be moved. If the fit looks a bit 'gappy' that is because that is how that frame was built.
Upthread, I already recommended two rims that would be an excellent match for the extant ones and some caveats about the hubs (eg if they are French threaded or not)
cheers

Serial number. 7096185. Not clear in the pic. So it looks like its a 1977 bike, seven digits and the first being 7 leads me to believe thats the case. Not sure on the model, cant find anything to indicate that. Found some tyres, gonna stick with the original wheels atm. The saddle and stem are prio atm cos its unusable till thats sorted.
Re: Peugeot with Reynolds 531 frame tubes ( info sought )
I'm pretty certain this is a Peugeot PR10 from 1975/76. A mid range model. Very nice bike, notwithstanding the dimension problems, easily overcome with a good trawl through ebay.

unlikely; OP's bike has a different fork and has transfers that didn't exist before ~1977.

Re: identifying the model, my memory is a little hazy but I believe that when a friend of mine was looking for his first racing bike back in the early eighties we found that one of the catalogue companies (Kay's, Gratton or whatever) were selling Peugeot's that were different specifications to those sold through bike retailers. Perhaps that was the case when the OP's bike was sold a few years before?
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Hi,
Late to the party but it looked a bit like a bike a colleague rode in the early 80s.
He knew it wasn’t the highest spec. but was close to a PX10 or even a PY10.
I’m pretty sure your bike is this one, from ‘78 but in silver?
