The basic rule with pumps is that the bigger they are, the better they are at pumping,

All things being equal, yes, track pump Vs mini track pump, no contest.
When comparing different types, other factors kick in, mainly ease of use. Pushing against the ground is so much easier than pushing against your other hand holding the pump on the valve. If it wasn't so, you'd have hand held track pumps

Excellent points above about the CO2 andrew. If folks take a pump as well as the canisters, where's the neatness/smartness in that? If they don't take a pump, bonkers in my view.

I take CO2 when out for a ride.
If I go away, I'll take the pump.


As for the waste of CO2, it's cheap and plentiful and a bi-product ....... of what, I can't remember, but it's readily available.

There's no such thing as easily recycleable
Then it still has to be re-manufactured, packaged, transported. For what? To save a tiny amount of time at the roadside.

When was the last time I used any CO2?

I seem to have lost my records.
No doubt they are on my computer somewhere ........... but I can't see them.

I was definitely prior to October 2018 as that was when I bought a job lot of CO2 canisters. I still have one left of the Lezyne ones so have that in my saddle bag plus two of the no name ones from eBay. Not sure if the no names will work properly, so I have the Lezyne one if required.

Any road up, it's not as if I use many of them at all.
If I was prone to many regular fairy visits - which I most certainly am not - I would't use CO2 at all and always take a pump.

I carry a zefal hpx frame fit pump on both my steel audax and carbon road bike. Neither has a pump peg.
I place it under the top tube and secure it withe three velcro straps. It doesn't rattle and hasn't come loose or fallen off in over a decade. I also have a mini pump which I've used to "save weight". I found sneezing lost more weight. It was marginally better than nothing.
Frame fit pump is the way to go IMO.

I have a mini floor pump type - the Lezyne Micro Floor Drive mentioned earlier in the thread, and I'm happy with it. I attach mine alongside and slightly to the rear of the seat tube (port-side) using a velcro and rubber block mount of the sort folk use to put a torch onto their handlebars but it is inline as opposed to at right-angles (often sold to mount a torch to a rifle barrel).
