Xenon broken left hand paddle

Post by Downhillplease. »

Hi I’m having a bad day! Broke the shifter of an Xennon front mech after a hasty road repair.
It’s from a 9 gear set from a Giant OCR. Any ideas of how or what I can replace with without spending a fortune.
Not work presently. So trying everything that might work.
Cheers John.

There's a few places that sell them.
My LH one broke on my Chorus Ergos in 2015.
Bought a new one from Amazon for £24.
A quick look now, doesn't seem to show them.

First port of call would be Mercian in Derby. They have a large collection of Campag spares.

Give them a ring.

Most of the damaged Ergos at thus end of the price range tend to be the right ones. Lefts pop up fairly often for not a lot.

Sigma Sport usually do ergo spares, I bought an upshift lever from them last year.

Logically therefore watch eBay for something suitable.

Sorry, can't let this pass.

The brake cables in Campag Ergos have smaller nipples and you need Campag specifically.
The gear cables are the same as no-name ............ or even Shimano.

Not sure about that. I believe the Campag nipple is slightly shorter and slightly smaller diameter than Shimano. Not to say they might not fit, but I have a vague memory (many years ago) of Shimano nipples sticking in place because they are fatter.

Having said that, I have 3 machines with Ergo ranging from early 90s Record to 2010 Centaur, all of which are fitted with Gore Ride-On gear cables which fit just fine. Perhaps Gore made them Campag size which will also fit other brands.

The gear inners wear at the nipple end.
I've replaced lots of them over the years, and I can't honestly say which make are in there now. They may not be all the same, but they all fit and they all work. The nipples may well be different, but it makes no difference at all. They all fit and they all work.

The brake cables are basically all the same too, but it's the nipples that are smaller with Campag but they don't need replacing very often at all if ever ........ as they don't bend like gear inners do. Can't remember ever needing a new brake inner, but gear inners wear and fray with monotonous regularity and you don't need Campag for them.
