A suitable alternative

Post by Harpsta22 »

I’ve recently acquired an old Raleigh classic tourer. It’s in useable condition except for needing a new derailleur. The one fitted is a sachs huret duopar, it was bent out of shape which I’ve managed to straighten as best I can but there’s no resistance in the springs, so it’s probably easier to fit a new one. I’m not bothered what type as I’m only using the bike as a work hack. So anyone know what derailleur would work. It’s got a 5 speed cassette with triple chain set. ??

Probably you would get away with just about any old rear mech - cheapest would be Shimano Tourney. It's 'plastic meets bent tin', but works well enough.

Thanks. I assume the speed rating (ie 7 speed) would be ok for the 5 speed cassette?
