Shimano Alfine 11 (SG-S700/7000) dissembly pdf

Postby simonineaston » 31 Jul 2020, 11:04am

Soon after I bought my latest project off of a fellow CUK forum user, I took the Afline 11 speed hub apart to check all was well, which it was :-) I thought I'd document the procedure while I was at it, and although there are one or two minor 'gotchas', it was remarkably straightforward. The resulting pdf is available for others to use - not sure exactly how to make it available - any advice? We don't have a document library here on this forum, do we?

Cool - thanks for letting me know :-)
When I get around to stripping to bits - and putting back together the whole hub, I'll do another...

No prob.s - I was surprised how straightforward it was :-) I'd seen a couple of dire warnings about how the sprocket circlip was "the-spring-clip-from-Hell", but actually it was very well behaved! I have a very similar Sturmey-Archer 8 speed on another bike and predictably I suppose, the Al-fee-nay has a higher level of fitNfinish.

Very good. A picture of the gear cluster you lifted out might have been nice. Next instalment?

Yes interesting idea - I didn't actually do anything with it, other than drain the remaining oil into the baked-bean tin and then inject semi-fluid grease everywhere I could reach, then pop it back into the shell.
However I could have taken a few snaps while it was out... a missed opportunity. EDIT: the next episode will be all about setting up the cable... inc. the all-important "184mm" measurement :-)
