Weinmann Brake Shoes Arrow

Hi my brake shoes from Weinmann have an Arrow in the rubber

Which direction do they need to assemble. Arrow in forward rotation?

It's the direction the rim is travelling when it passes the pads..so, yes, forward

Assuming the brake shoes are closed at both ends I'm not sure why there would be a direction for the brake blocks, but I would assume that the arrowr refers to the direction of travel of the rim. I would be more concerned about what looks like a crack in the rim by the spoke hole.
