Not all the same. I find the cheap stuff tends to be thinner and less shock-absorbing. I think this is one thing where it pays to spend just a little more on a well-known brand. Cork bar tapes from Deda and Cinelli are both good and can be had for under a tenner.

I've used the Cinelli cork tape on multiple bikes. Easy to wrap, stays in place, quite good shock absorption, lasts well.

There is always a few rolls of Cinelli splash tape in the bike shop bargain bin.
That is the 5? colour stuff.

Camo tape is ok, if the shop has no splash or pink tape left. :)
Cheapskates use Cateye cloth tape, that is available in the back of the
shop, 3rd table from the left, bottom shelf, next to a stack of Biopace chain rings.
