There are plenty of Mavic A319/Deore combination wheelsets ready-made online at a reasonable price. Halfords tend to be pricey and it'll likely be a budget Taiwanese wheel they sell you.

I've got the same Mavics on two bikes (commuter and tourer) and no problems. But, these have disc brakes so no rim wear issues as alluded to upthread.

PS mine are handbuilt.

Also ordered a dental caliper so we can test the existing rims out of curiosity. Pretty sure they are at the end of their life though. WIll be interesting to see how the other bikes in our stable are doing.

Thanks for the helpful messages folks! :)

For future reference, some rims (and the LX17s are like this) have some sort of visible indication of rim wear so that you can change rim just before you get to the point where failure is likely. Worth having, I think.

If you are any good with DIY things it is worth learning how to put a new rim on when you need to. I have done it with no more specialist equipment than a spoke key costing about £5. A new rim can cost £20, and the rest of the wheel will go through 2 or 3 rims worth of use if maintained.
