Union-Marwi UN-4276; best of low price dynamo lights?
Union-Marwi UN-4276; best of low price dynamo lights?
I have used a UN-4265 light for some years (on my 'hack bike') and it has been pretty good; 35 lux and a shaped beam with a good cutoff. In fact the only things I didn't like about it were the built-in reflector (kind of ugly) and the screws that held it together, which went rusty too quickly. Best of all it only cost about £15.
I have idly wondered what I'd get to replace it, should it ever go belly-up. Now I have a good idea, the UN-4276 'spark 50' model looks like ti might do;
50 lux and (I presume) a similar beam shape to the previous model, in a more compact housing with a removeable reflector. Standlight, too, and the current price (from Dutchbikebits) is just 17 euros.

anyone know of any UK sources for this lamp? Anything else that comes close on performance vs value?
It doesn't seem that long ago that 50 lux and a shaped beam with a cutoff was the sole province of fancy lights costing £50-60. Yay for technology!
cheers

Unfortunately, we will not be able to send parcels to the UK from mid December 2020 onward. Quite apart from uncertainty surrounding the shipping cost, taxation etc. after that time, there is also a problem caused by the British government deciding to impose a unique taxation regime which will require every company in the world in every country in the world outside the UK which exports to the UK to apply and collect British taxes on behalf of the British government. For providing this service they intend to charge a fee to every company in the world in every country in the world which exports to the UK. Clearly this is ludicrous for one country, but imagine if every country in the world had the same idea. If every country decided to behave in the same way then we would have to pay 195 fees every year, keep up with the changes in taxation law for 195 different countries, keep accounts on behalf of 195 different countries and submit payments to 195 tax offices in 195 different countries, and jump through whatever hoops were required to prove that we were doing all of this honestly and without any error.
Therefore from mid December 2020 onward we ship to every country in the world... except the UK.

Note that with the first light (and possibly the second) the tags for the connecting wire for the rear light are directly soldered onto a pcb inside the light, so you need the prevent the wires from moving, e.g. cable tie to the bracket, or the solder joints will eventually crack.

Still from Germany, but off of ebay, if they're still sending....only 2 left, it looks the same one just no model number £14.50 plus £8.00 postage, and another German supplier slightly more expensive.

I have a second hand wheel with 1.5 watt Shimano XT, I wonder if this might be a good cheap match for it, the B&M light Spa that bundle with that dynamo wheel is £63 bought separately !

I fitted the UN-4265 on my cargo bike and was very pleasantly surprised by its performance for the money. I have just ordered the following for our tandem https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/bus ... prod202082 Currently at £27. B&M have it listed at SRP 85euros.

Good call, that's the one listed in the Spa XT wheel bundle I think.

Blimey - having a quick scan of the new v.a.t rules - it look like they don't apply for individuals - clearly what we need is someone in the EU who is prepared to purchase them on your behalf, who will then be paid..

Lots of discussion on the implications for international orders over here:

I found a source for a direct replacement of your existing light
https://www.sprocketscycles.com/collect ... ront-light
...I suspect that the increase in price compared with the European source may include VAT, additional delivery and handling costs (from mainland Europe to here, and a loss of economy of scale - still not a bad price

... apologies yes, just re-edited my previous post.... might be worth contacting sprocketscycles to see if they're getting any in...
I suspect that there is a strong (but currently surpressed) market for reasonably priced, good LED lamps - I'd certainly be tempted - infact I might drop them a line myself in the new year

I paired this £7.99 decathlon offering with an AXA bottle dyno on my commuting bike. https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/front-dyn ... -7-7492610
Working great and gives a pretty good beam even in pitch darkness. You're a bit knackered if you stop though as it doesn't come with a 'standlight' facility - bloody cheapskates!!

The OP lamp looks similar to the nean that mjr mentioned elsewhere but that was only 30 lux unless ones is a typo?
The union/marwi doesn't appear widely available yet?
