So last week i ordered a new back wheel, the one in the bike has served well but the rim is quite worn and the bearings are shot after a particularly hard year of riding and many years of general abuse. Anyhow, delivery is expected next week - no problem says i, pretty sure the bearings will last me that long and the brake track isn't
that bad, and the wheel is still true. That is until today, horrible damp, windy weather, a strangely large amount of spilt deisel on the damp roads, i didn't give the squirmy braking too much thought, the tyre was inflated, the wheel looked pretty straight still. When i got back tho, it was immediately obvious what the issue was!
Yep, complete failure of a nipple hole, i've missed the warning signs because of all the crud on the roads around here coating everything in a liberal layer of field, the last de-crud was a week ago.
So my pre emptive wheel purchase has now become a desperate replacement need!
Perhaps i should offer my services to the bike trade - i seem to be able to kill just about any component - at xmas it was the BB and the headset on the same bike is, i know, in dire need of attention as we speak!
ps - my bikes do get cleaned and serviced, i don't use cheap parts either.
