As a 17 year old I borrowed the gate of a mates dad to ride some TT's. Loved it but he would sell. Still want one. Can't afford 2 mortgages though.
Of course that Gate trike that a certain TA family have (or had a couple of years ago) is the ultimate.
Got a pic as my screen saver.
Flying Gate
Re: Flying Gate
The Taylor registry lists two ‘Gates’. An ‘International Gate’ produced in 1952 and a ‘Five Bar Gate’ produced in 2000, one of the last frames he built.
Re: Flying Gate
The brothers could put together a time-trial bike like this in 1951. That’s a bike.
Re: Flying Gate
that is a very pretty frame. Incredibly skinny chainstays though...

Re: Flying Gate
About 10 years ago I bought a secondhand Trevor Jarvis Flying Gate, an early one of his, an ultra short time trial special (36" wheelbase). I kept it for a few years but wasn't using it so sold it on. At that time a touring Gate would have sold for about £800, but a limited use machine like mine went for £400 to a chap who had a collection of short machines. I saw it on eBay last year. It had been in a crash and the frame was being sold by a dealer as "wall art" and the parts separately for what I thought was silly money.
I have just assembled another short machine, but a lot more practical. Will I use it - not much I think but I have to have a hobby.

Re: Flying Gate
I had a Trevor Jarvis Flying Gate for a while about 10 years ago (with a MASSIVE 28" frame) - the short wheelbase did seem to make it go faster . . . although I may be imaging that - but it was very stable to ride and kicking down on the pedals gave more acceleration than my other bikes of the time (1975 Dawes Galaxy, 1980 Claud Butler Majestic and 198? Peugeot Triathlon)
I'm very tall but even I found the 28" frame too big and the frame wa sold to someone taller than me!

Now made by Beaumont Cycles http://www.beaumontbicycle.com/#home-section. Owned by a female frame builder Liz Colebrook. Lovely lady , had a good chat with her about the frames at York Rally a couple of years ago.

Re: Flying Gate
I wasn’t aware of it being a present make. I’ll ask the moderator to change the thread title to ‘Gate’.

Probably unsuitable for off-road.
