Thule bar end piece removal

Post by PAB855 »

I need to remove the end pieces and clamps from a Thule roof cycle rack of the older design. The ends are in two parts. The locking end piece with the long square bar has been removed so that the clamp slides freely but is prevented from coming off by the smaller piece which has a hole for the square bar and below it, a hole for the pin of the locking piece.

This inner of the two pieces has a wee bit of free play, but is reluctant to slide off. As it's the fixed part into which the lock engages, that's not surprising.

I have searched here without success. Other forums have very limited help and some suggest it's à case of freeing it maybe with plusgas and helping with a hammer?

The annoying thing is I changed the bars from shorter ones in 2012 ànd can't recall having any problems. I see from the old ones, that the rubber covering doesn't go all the way to the end of the bar, but no sign of any fixing screws etc.

Sadly the original paper instructions are long gone.

Càn anybody help, pleàse?
