... if your front light appears to be something like the one in picture below (ie BM Lumotec Halogen) then you don't need any rear lamp at all because this (front) light itself is already provided with a zener voltage limiter.

That's the one! Thanks for letting me know. All the same I think I will consider buying an LED front and a rear, though thanks to you I now know that I can run this one "as is" until I decide.
