Lining up a 5 bolt middle chainring

Post by Badgerjockey »

Just putting on a new shimano middle road chaining with five bolts. One bolt hole has the arrow mark on it. Usually I’d line up any such mark with the crank but this is a five bolter so there is no bolt in line with the crank. Do I line it up with the bolt at 180degrees to the crank? Or something else?

Thanks.

If the chainring is at all profiled/ramped/pinned for shifting I'd expect there to be a nubbin that lines up with the crank somewhere on the inner circumference of the chainring. What is the product code on the chainring?

I believe you can flip chainrings through 180 degrees.
