I bought mine second-hand but unused (so basically new). But it came to me assembled (and obviously seems to be correct!). Was this something you were putting together yourself or was it assembled already with the wrong ring?UpWrong wrote: ↑21 Apr 2021, 7:07pmThanks. That's what I thought. I bought it from Spa as the middle in a super compact double, so a triple with a chain guard as the outer. Looks like they sent me an outer ring by mistakegregoryoftours wrote: ↑21 Apr 2021, 6:52pm Outer. An inner isn't ramped and pinned unless it's the middle of a triple, and the seating for the head of the chainring bolt is also on the outer side of the chainring. The threaded holes are to screw a peg into depending on your crank spider configuration, to prevent the chain from jamming in between the outer chainring and the crank arm.
Is this an inner or outer chainring?

Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
Spa have confirmed they sent the wrong ring by mistake, so I shall be returning it.
I still need to sort out the shims/spacers so the gap between inner and middle ring is correct (and between middle and chaninguard to be safe). I am converting a TD-2 triple I have but I've lost a couple of the spacers, which I think are 0.45mm ones so it would be good if I could get them to add a pack when the corrrect ring is sent.

Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
Middle ring on my Moulton is a 48t.
61/48/35 triple. Originally came with 58/48/34.
.............. so 48t middles do exist.

Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
True: but I was thinking in terms of MTB triples for touring bikes.
Raleigh Randonneur 708 (Magura hydraulic brakes); Blue Raleigh Randonneur 708 dynamo; Pearson Compass 631 tourer; Dawes One Down 631 dynamo winter bike;Raleigh Travelogue 708 tourer dynamo; Kona Sutra; Trek 920 disc Sram Force.
Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
Correct of course.
I've only scanned through this thread, and one comment was that 48t wouldn't be a middle ......... or words like that? ........... but they do exist as a middle, coz I've got one.

Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
It's 110mm BCD, same as the inner.
Outer is 130mm.
34/48/58 originally.
This photo is as it is now with the 61t outer.

Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
To be fair Mick F, that is a special case. However, it is true that both TA and Spa market 46T middle rings in a conventional 110 format..
Re: Is this an inner or outer chainring?
The correct 46T inner/middle ring has arriived from Spa along with a set of 0.45mm spacers which I shall use when I install it.
