Spa have TA rings up to 61t .............. which I have on Moulton.

In order to get higher gears rather than using silly small cogs, fit a SA 3sp as well ............. which I have done.
Friction bar-end shifter works perfectly with it. In-line for 2nd gear (direct drive) and all slack for 3rd, and all tight for 1st.

Hi Mick, are you aware that SA make a 3 speed bar end shifter? https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/gear-shifte ... mbshifter/
Personally I wouldn't recommend using a friction shifter to engage 2nd gear.

Two answers.
drossall wrote: 6 May 2021, 1:22pm I should have thought that 36H 20" rims were like hen's teeth? Haven't checked.
CR18 rims from SJS.

I have a spare 28h for the front, and a 36 for the rear sitting in the workshop.

Read these.

You will see I have been active in asking shifter questions.
SJS only recommend shifters for MTB bikes, and not dropped bar bikes.
I can assure anyone reading this, that this bar end shifter works perfectly with the hub. Perfectly. No issue whatsoever. Full stop.

Just dome some research. :D

Bought the bar end friction shifter from Single Track Bikes in April 2017.
£26.99 with free postage.

Read all this on here about it.

This is telling.
Having read all my linked thread.
Mick F wrote: 28 Apr 2017, 1:44pm If anyone finds this thread in the future, they may learn a lot from it. If I had my time again, I'd go for the 3sp shifter rather than the one I have now. As far as SJS Cycles are concerned, the 3sp shifter won't work ............ but we know different. :D

Despite my question about this, I'm willing to bet that this would work, despite them saying NO.

Tell you what, I'm feeling brave. Give me some time and create a shopping list to make the postage worthwhile, and I'll get one, and report back to us on here, and them at SJS. :D

Shifter Compatibility

Is this shifter compatible with the Sturmey Archer RF3 3Spd Cassette Hub?

https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/hubs-intern ... e-hub-36h/
Thanks.

SJS Customer Service:
Hi,

Unfortunately not, this shifter is designed for Sturmey's normal 3spd hubs which use a different cable pull to the CS-RF3 cassette hub. This cassette hub requires a MTB type front 3spd shifter to work.
Thanks.
