Rear Hanger - 1997 M2 Allez

Post by Bigrobbike »

Hi,

A few years ago I built up a 1997 Allez metal matrix composite M2 frame with an 11-speed groupset and it is my absolute favourite bike! My bike's frame was seemingly only made for one year! I have never seen another M2 but I am sure that there are a few still kicking about. My frame is in good condition and I try to look after it. Unfortunately, the rear mech hanger is knackered and my local bike store has been incredibly unhelpful. I am contacting a few places in the UK...I am in London. However, it is like looking for a needle in a haystack and frankly I am in trouble if I cannot find the right hanger. I can't find a part number and I am beginning to lose hope. Any suggestions? Not sure what to do!!!!

Any help or suggestions would be incredibly welcome.

Thanks,

Robert

BETD and gearhangershop.co.uk would be my starting points, but I wonder if that frame shares a hanger with any others, RetroBike might be the best place to ask about that. Otherwise, as a last option I wonder if 3D printing is an option option, rather than the usual visit to a local machine shop (with your old hanger for reference). There are people who specialise in prototyping who might be able to help with that.

Have you emailed Spesh directly? Never know what might still be in a drawer somewhere.

Good luck staying sane while trawling through Spesh hangers of a similar vintage!

Oh, and when you do find one, for goodness sake buy three!

I'm a trendy consumer. Just look at my VOG-L09 using hovercraft full of eels.

There's an American company here:-

https://wheelsmfg.com/derailleur-hanger-tech-help

They do loads of Specialised hangers but I can't say if they do yours. (It was only when elPedro mentioned "Spesh" that I twigged who the manufacturer was.)

soshanger.com is another site to look at, also don't just search by make and model if you can't find your gearhanger. It's time consuming but look at all gear hangers. One site I used allowed you to send images of your current hanger and they would give you a couple of possibles, think it might have been the one I've mentioned.

Just to be clear, do you know for a fact that the hanger is different to the one for the normal 1997 Allez?

Please take the hanger off the frame and post a photo of both sides on this thread.

In our bike shop we have a huge wallchart showing the hundreds of rear mech hangers manufactured by one particular company. It is more or less a big advert for the company. When we are looking for a replacement hanger and have no part number I spend time poring over the shapes on this chart to try and match one up with the broken or bent piece. Seems easier with a picture in front of you than an online image on a screen. I am sure a bike shop local to you will have the Wheels Manufacturing Hanger Chart.
