Hi,
I just bought a bike from amazon and it turn out that the shifting are not working properly. i have 7 gear in the rear and 3 gear on the front. at the beginning, the rear derailleur is not able is not move when i shift from lvl 7 -6 and 5 and still at the smallest ring.
I followed park tool video on YouTube in order to fix my rear derailleur. but still having a problem to move from the 7th gear to the 6th gear in the rear derailleur (from the smallest ring to the next one). even if i tighten the barrel adjuster too much i was able by chance to move it to the 6th gear only once. and it's not consistent.
this is how it looks like at the 7th gear :
i put it to 6th gear, but it won't move :
tighten the barrel adjuster further and not able to move to the 6th gear
i'm not sure even with that it won't go to the 6th gear ?? did my read derailleur seems have misalignment ? it's a new bike !!
if i select the 5th gear it moves sometimes to the 6th gear or to the 5th gear depend on the adjustment that i made on the barrel adjustment.
this how easy to move the derailleur, is that normal ?

just explain where the tick sound come from :
is it a problem of rear derailleur, and do you think it's better to buy a new derailleur ? what should i consider if i bought a new derailleur. all can be installed to my bike ?
thanks,
rear derailleur shifting problems (7 gears)
Re: rear derailleur shifting problems (7 gears)
Take it to a bike shop and ask them to true the rear derailleur. Also ask if they can show you the basics of adjusting your gears. It's worth the £15.

Allowing that it's not been bent in transit, it's a voyage of discovery that get easier every time you do it, even really poor derailers change gear, buying a better one wont solve the set up problemtzt007 wrote: ↑17 May 2021, 3:24pm Hi,

thanks,
1) set the limit screws
2) put it on a smallest gear,
3 click shift
4if it doesnt move turn the, adjuster till it does
If that doesnt work you have to much slack cable
