29 x 2.2 tyres

Post by sneggysteve »

My grandson needs a replacement for a Bontrager XR2 Comp, wire bead, 30 tpi, 29x2.20" on his Trek Marlin. Trek site says max tyre size as 29 x 2.2 but 2.2 seem very hard to get hold of whatever make. Don't want the Bontrager.

What other size coud he buy?

Thanks

Do you know your way around ISO sizing?

That "29 x 2.2" should have something like 55-622 on it.

...

With the old tyre in place is there room for anything wider?

Are they looking for another MTB tyre or something different?

Also, check the clearance between the rear tyre and the front mech. That's what limits my bike to 50-622, even though the frame would take a tyre a good bit wider than that.

OK. MTB type, we've got the diameter... what's the acceptable range of widths, as above?
