Transformation

Post by warey4life »

Thought I would post the result of my last little project.
I bought an old Saracen Rufftrax budget MTB off of a friend for £20, and basically stripped all the components off, stripped the frame down to the bare aluminium and slowly built it back up over the last 18 months with mostly new components.
I usually take my frames to be shot blasted and powder coated but this time to save money I bought some Nitromors and spent several tiring days removing the paint myself 😐. I quite liked the look of the bare aluminium so gave it the brushed effect.
The end result is a kind of strange hybrid gravel bike with a stupidly low gear ratio, nice for relaxing rides around the country lanes and across the Blackdown Hills.

Very nice work there. If you drop off the hills towards the levels I might see you at the North Curry community cafe.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

Nice, so how did you fix the rear disc caliper to the frame?

Thanks. I live right on the Devon Somerset border near Culmstock, North Curry would be 50 mile round cycle for me. That kind of distance would ruin me!!

Neat idea. Shame it doesn't fit steel frames or I'd do the same with my Muddy Fox.

I like! It looks so much better than the original bike! How do you rate the a2z disc mount? Any juddering/squealing or slipping problems with it? Is that On One fork about 100mm corrected? Is that stem an old GT one, or is the splatter paint job your own doing?

I've only taken it out on a few tests but the rear brake seems fairly responsive. I'm going out on a proper ride next Sunday so it'll get a proper testing then.
Fork axle to crown measurement to match an 80mm suspension fork apparently, is that what u mean by corrected?
I painted the stem black and did he enamel paint flecks, which is very similar to the paint job on an old GT Tequesta I had years ago!
