New member here,
I'm about to start "refurbing" my 70's Raleigh DL-1 and have a couple of q's.
I had, years ago, swapped the AW guts with an S5 (S5.2 I believe) and had used this shitty shifter black one, till it quickly broke.
I believe it is the pre-88 S5.2 as IIRC, had the 2 springs, pinion return and low gear spring.
I also have this in my stash and wonder if it will work? I learned now it's for Sturmey 5Star.
Would this shifter from a 5Star with an S5/2?
I am aware of the usual 3spd right/friction left setup.
It's kind of no wonder hub never really worked well as Engineering Machine Design 101 says "never design with springs in differential". Don't know what they were thinking.
I found after the fact there's an Sturmey upgrade using only one spring.
Currently running an AG. Hopefully the S5 will transplant.
