Do Ant + heart rate monitors and cadence link to any head unit or are they specific to their own make?

Ant+ devices should communicate with other Ant+ device like Bluetooth does.

I couldn’t get my mio belt(head unit battery problem) to connect with an old garmin .
I did wonder if you need to remove battery to reset it???

Have you got the exact model description or number of each device?

Some of the old Garmins don't really apply the ANT+ standard properly. My Etrex 30x will handle an ANT+ HRM ok (I'[m using a CooSpo one), but doesn't like speed or cadence sensors. It apparently only works with a (discontinued) Garmin combined speed/cadence sensor.

In theory they should but in practice incompatibility issues can occur even within the same brand and with older models.

This site is pretty comprehensive: https://www.thisisant.com/directory

In the end I purchased a snooper hrm belt and it links with old and new.
It was cheap so I don’t know how long it will last.
