problem: crank extraction - or not!

Just to thank all once again for advice - ended up swallowing pride and going round to my friendly LBS where, after several cautious attempts with a number of extractors, both cranks were removed - as was suggested above, it seems the job required an extractor with a relatively long `bolt' part...

...anyway my continued custom at the shop is now guaranteed - not that it was ever in any doubt!
