Third bottle cage, clips front ring...

Post by nomm »

I recently went to fit my third bottle cage to increase water carrying and decrease need to stop and refill

Unfortunately my 105 R8000 front chain ring 50/34 on 165mm cranks clips my bottle cage (thorn carbon)

Any ideas on a problem solve?

Three bottles?
Why not remain with two, and use bigger bottles?

You can get up to 800odd millilitres and still use the same cage.
Maybe there's a 1 litre one out there somewhere.

It takes more than that on mine.
My cage is moved down the tube to clear the mudguard, left to clear the chainrings, and away from the tube to clear the gear cables.

I've used that Topeak on a few bikes, without and with some modification. Change of position is 32mm.

The Passport site says that theirs offers 30mm, but it is variable without modification.

NB Check length of the new *bolts with all of these to avoid damage to the frame.

Turns out I am an idiot and was trying to fit the thing the wrong way round. Got it right this time and now no clipping
