Carry Freedom trailers - disc brakes - small or large?
Idle moments and I'm hankering after a trailer again.
Perhaps this will wear off.
I like the look of the Carry Freedom range, especially the Y Large.

I looked for one for sale and found:
https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/trailers/ca ... l-trailer/
which has a picture of the Y large!
Not a good start.
Anyway, does anyone use one of these trailers?
If so, do they attach directly to the rear axle?
If so, has anyone attached one to a read disc brake model?
I have a Spa Wayfarer (and an old MTB) and was wondering if it was practical to attach such a trailer before I get too excited.

I have a Y Frame Small.
Had the old universal joint hitch, and then bought the Lollipop Hitch.
Used it on Mercian and on Moulton, and also on the Raleigh Chopper.
It's done thousands and thousands of miles fully loaded and with a concrete block inside for training value.
It's been dismantled and taken on trains, in the back of cars, and generally been versatile and wonderful.

The Robert Axle Project (sold in the UK by SJS) sell a range of "Kid Trailer" thru axles onto which you can attach a CF trailer mount.
I bought one, and the quality is good.

No pics, I have and use a CF Y large. I use it in two ebikes both are HDB, so the answer is yes to disc brakes and 9mm QR or in my case I have drilled out the axle mount to 12mm to fit my 12 mm hub motors.

Re: Carry Freedom trailers - disc brakes - small or large?
I've done ~50k miles with my large Carry Freedom trailer behind my bent trike.
The trike has a rear disk brake. The brake sits above the axle and inside the frame while the hitch is below the axle and outside the frame, so no interference problems there.
My main problem with the trailer was the wheel bearing tended to die after ~7.5k miles. Switched to better quality bearings and no trouble with them since the switch.
Luck ...........

Thanks to all for the input.
So it looks as though it should fit.
The question now is small or large?
Thoughts on why owners chose their particular size?

I have the large for versatility, why restrict what you can carry? If you are worried about width, it fits through all the 'bollards' I've encountered with ease. As for any weight difference that's got to be negligible compared to the load. As for storage, the wheels pop off with the press of a button and the frame sits flat against the wall, I don't even notice it when it's stored in the garage, (the wheels hang from the ceiling).
I have a length of angle iron (with welded brackets) that I can bolt to the load bed (V upwards) onto which I can mount a bicycle using luggage straps to hold it upright and toe-straps to hold the wheels in place. I use this regularly to transport repaired bikes, towed by either my ancient three speed folder or my BikeE recumbent (not electric despite the name ). I have, when necessary added a further two bikes lashed either side of the central bike, but that's probably pushing it a little
The unwritten bonus of a trailer is how much space passing motorists give you and the slightly larger, large Y frame probably scares following drivers even more

I have a large Y frame simply because my bent trike has 3x 20" wheels.
So one size tyre/inner tube fits all 5 wheels.

Large for me for the extra carrying weight and larger load I can carry.
