To those of you asking what sort of valve it is: although the OP hasn't replied here, he's asked the same question on CycleChat where he's confirmed it's a Schrader valve.

Ah.
Schrader.
Completely different subject to the one I was banging on about!
Can't help, other than recommend that Schrader are the completely wrong valve for a bicycle. Fine for a car etc, but completely the wrong thing for a bike.

Schwalbe Presta drive me bonkers though!

often have a flat or soft tyre after a day or three. No matter how tight I screw the damned things, they still eventually leak.

I ask again .......... why are they removable?
I won't be buying them again.

Are you getting recurrent leaks through Presta valves?

Thanks

I guess it must have been hidden on the first line of OP :D
Twice in the last week my inner tubes have leaked through the Schrader valve.

Whoops - you're quite right: I hadn't spotted the OP had specified it was a Schrader valve in their original post here, because they'd omitted that one word in their CycleChat post!

Looking at the discussion across the two forums, it looks like this one is now solved: the OP wasn't aware that Schrader valves had removable cores, but will be now, and will no doubt be getting that valve cap/tool.

 I was taught that the valve nut should go under the rim (not above it), so that when you're
pumping up the tube, the valve nut helps prevent the valve from moving around and becoming
detached from the tube rubber.

On which type of valve, please?

Thanks

The core of a Schrader valve has to be removable to deflate the tyre. You can hold the middle pin down of course but you'd be a long time waiting on a tractor tyre :)

Airlane1979 wrote: 27 Sep 2021, 11:19am Twice in the last week my inner tubes have leaked through the Schrader valve. In the latest one, it was a brand-new tube that I took out and within a couple of hours punctured on the road. At home, I fixed the leak, tested the tube, then deflated it and replaced it inside the tyre. On refitting it to the bike, I began inflating it but after a few seconds it lost all its air through the valve. Why would this be? How can I stop it happening? I'm buying too many new tubes.
How's it going?

Do you need any more help?

Thanks
