20 inch wheel brompton

Post by cycle tramp »

Rewind to the middle of the 2000's and my eyes were opened by the touring possibilities using 20 inch wheels and a folding frame, when I bought and rode a dahon speed tr. However a complicated hinge mechanism and poor finishing meant that the frame became less and less rigid. In the end I gave it back to the shop, and wrote to brompton asking if they'd ever considered producing a brompton with 20inch wheels. Never got a reply back.

However kinetics have produced a front fork and a rear triangle kit allowing you to change from 16 inch wheels to 20 inch wheels (or 18 inch wheels and a 2 inch wide tyres)

Cool :D

You need to look out for a dawes Kingpin or a Raleigh twenty stowaway. Heres my Kingpin with 20" 406 wheels in place of those original 500A's

At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D
