I totally agree and only posted the link to show the picture of the sort of thing you need. I could knock one up in 30 minutes.

If you have V-Brake levers and Canti-lever brakes that won't work properly, it is because of a mis-matched cable pull. https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/ques ... ur%20grip.I have also got V-brake levers on this, which are not that comfortable on rough ground where I have to squeeze tight.

Plenty of (stainless?) drilled strip available, eg https://www.amazon.co.uk/CYH-Stainless- ... B07F467H94
Of course, in the days when pannier racks were held on with this stuff, every bike shop had offcuts.

Re: Set lower front mudguard on 26 inch
Thanks for the replies.
I have lowered the mudguard gashing up a slotted metal piece up the crown tube, held in place with the bolt and a nut in the tube.
I have lost the reflector, which I thought would get snagged until I have sorted the brakes.
I will now look into fixing the brake, which is rubbing a bit (on drive side) now that the cables aren't being pushed aside by the higher placed mudguard.
I think a V-brake would be an improvement.

That's interesting. In fact, these brakes have worked very well, and I have not really noticed an issue over more than a year (of urban riding).Mr.Benton wrote: ↑11 Oct 2021, 1:40pmIf you have V-Brake levers and Canti-lever brakes that won't work properly, it is because of a mis-matched cable pull. https://bicycles.stackexchange.com/ques ... ur%20grip.I have also got V-brake levers on this, which are not that comfortable on rough ground where I have to squeeze tight.
The brakes still stop the bike pretty decisively, and I don't think I am pulling a lot of cable with the V-brake levers.
But doing a lot of downhill would mean constant pulling on a small, V-brake lever. That would not be comfortable after a while. (Might not be very comfortable with V-brakes either, of course.)

Re: Set lower front mudguard on 26 inch
I tried fitting these, but could not get them over the mount loop of the stays. Mine were SKS, but I think this mudguard is a cheap one.Paulatic wrote: ↑10 Oct 2021, 10:17pm "Safety breakaways" are those plastic triangular mounts on the mudguard stays? None on this bike, but I think I have a pair. Would they shift the bottom of the mudguard away from the tyre a bit?
I doubt they’ll alter the distance significantly but they could definitely save you from injury. They’ll be better on the bike than In a drawer.
Colin is right about your canti set up see what they are like after getting the guard in the right place before changing.

Re: Set lower front mudguard on 26 inch
Your brakes won't work well at that angle of cable. It needs shortening bring the bridge down twenty mm or ten mm above the guard.
