Which side does the cleat with the star go on and is the small bit the front Thank

It does not really matter. Time recommend that for first time users the cleat with the star on it is positioned on the left foot. The difference between the cleats is simply a small difference in the release angle. I do not recall noticing much of a difference in use.

The short stubby bit with the arrow on it points forwards.
