AFAIK Stronglight 99 are the current 22mm standard threading.

Did you mean Stronglight 49D, the one that looks like a TA cyclotouriste, which is 23mm?

If they're 99s then they should be 22 mil - I have some 100 which are virtually identical and they uses 22.

If they're 23 then they're available here - http://www.velo-orange.com/ta23crduca.html

I have a 99, and lost the dustcaps 20 years ago.

The chainset is on another bike and is used frequently. Never had a problem without them.

I did a search a while back and the Stronglight 49D use proprietary 23,35mm wide crank puller. It's the TA Professional 5 Vis (often referred to as the "Cycloturiste") that have 23mm wide threads. ;)

If you don't mind about appearances, then a blob of Blu-Tack pressed over the crank bolt and smoothed over the hole does the job just as well (or better, since it's a better seal) than any dust cap. Blu-Tack is very handy for lots of other similar uses on the bike too.

It was always the "style" to leave the plugs out.

My Higgins trike has Stronglight 49D cranks with the odd 23.35mm x 1.5 mm thread.
I'm still looking for the correct puller as one LBS offered to remove them with a hammer.

I want to reuse them with smaller chainwheels.

Excuse me but as mentioned the measurement for the Stronglight threads chould be 23.35 mm.
I blame it on Sheldon and Harris Cyclery. ;)
Good new is that J.A. Stein still make one and you can get it from Velo-Orange.com!
Cheers!
