Shimano Dynohubs
Shimano Dynohubs
Does anyone (CJ?) know if the latest Shimano dynohubs are any good and how they compare to the Schmidt (i.e. resistance when turned off)?
Re:Shimano Dynohubs
I've tested their new "Sport" hub dynamo ("Ultegra/XT quality, about £60) in the next CTC mag. If you can wait a week or two, you can read all about it.
In a nutshell, taking the lights-on&off drag of a Schmidt to be equivalent to riding up a hill that rises 5&1 feet in a mile (i.e. rather trivial anyway) the new Shimano is probably about 6&2 and the basic Shimano 7&5 fpm.
Later this year there will be yet another new intermediate quality model from Shimano (Tiagra/Altus quality?) at probably 7&3 fpm.

Thanks for that Chris, looking forward to seeing your review in the next issue.
