Bar end Shifter not Indexing

Post by Kevin K »

I have a set of 9-speed Dura Ace bar end shifters. I've been using them on the friction setting over recent months, but having fitted new cables I decided to revert to indexing. The problem is I only get seven clicks with a large gap in the middle where the positions for gears five and six should be.

I've taken the shifter apart, but the index element appears completely sealed.

Can anyone help please?

I think that you could have the insert 180 degrees out.

I have a similar problem with some 7 speed bar end shifters and tried various refitting positions with no luck so I hope someone has an answer!

Thanks for the replies. I took both shifters off and spent some time ensuring all fittings were in the right place and right side, and now my indexing works in all gears. Not sure exactly what has changed, but I'm am happy cyclist.
