Sachsette etc

Post by herrmann »

Does anyone know if Sachsettes or similar sub-50-cc petrol bikes are available in this country? I mean really available with proper dealers, as opposed to obscure importing avenues.

In my neighbourhood I sometimes see (hear!) a thing like a mini-scooter with seat, and tiny petrol engine near the back hub. Being disabled, I'd love to have something like this. Unlike the electric Powabyke with its limited range, leading to paranoia about being dumped miles from home, the petrol bike really would be a freedom machine.

Info please.

I think it's actually called a Sachsonette. Nobody sells them in UK because we make exceptions only for electrically assisted pedal cycles.

Any other form of power assist, however puny, causes the British authorities to regard the bike as some kind of moped, that has to be taxed, insured and for which you need a license and a helmet. So everyone reckons they might as well get a Honda 50 or whatever.

Thank you CJ. I rather suspected it.
