Bar tape on flat bars?

Post by Trigger »

I'm about to change the bars and stem so will be removing the old (rubbish!) grips, I have a pack of unused easton cork bar tape in the shed so before I order some grips would it be worth trying the tape? does anyone use bar tape on flats?

Ta.

My other half does - flats + big 'L' shaped bar ends. It's something we did on tour as it solved the problem of gloveless sweaty hands slipping around on her grips (Ergon - she never did find them especially comfortable).

Yes, I've used various tape, including Easton cork tape and the Charge stuff that looks like fake leather, on flat bars. It works fine.

Gel tape on bar ends. Very comfortable.

Great stuff, I've got the cane creek ergo bar ends (which are awesome by the way) so it's just for the standard hand position, I was also thinking of double wrapping them or placing a cut off under before wrapping.

There are countless bikes with bull horn bars that will be taped, which a flat bar with bar ends is going to be remarkably similar to. I think it's even quite trendy right now :) .

I've just done this to Ally's bike using the Brooks tape taken from the drop bars they've replaced. works a treat

Specialised barphat. Two complete and independant layers over bar ends and grip area.
