Child trailer recommendations

Postby tinribs » 27 Dec 2010, 11:18am

Looking to buy a child trailer and was hoping to get one in the sales. Does anybody have any recommendations? Budgeting up to 200 quid.

Cheers for any advice.

A secondhand Burley.

I have an ancient Burley and it is excellent, looks very rough but it is better than any new trailer for £200.

The expensive aluminium ones are possibly half the weight of the steel ones, they certainly feel it.

My kids are too big now and the trailer has gone, but the one I had was from Argos - an Avenir I think - and I have to say it gave me 3 or 4 years of excellent service for about £70, highly recommended. I can't compare it with the more expensive lighter ones as I have no experience of any other trailer.

The one problem was that it fitted to the rear axle which meant it could only work with one bike, and it didn't work with QR axles. The cargo trailer I now have fits with a clamp to the chainstay and this seems great, and can be atached to pretty much any bike. Some of them I think fit to the seatpost, not sure how well that works, as I have never used one.

Thanks very much for the advice. Does anyone have any experience of the Edinburgh bicycle coop roller kids trailer?

Lidl Little van, £60. I can't fault mine, I'm keeping it now the kids are grown in case of camping trips.
