Shimano chainline

Post by lowrider »

I have a new shimano Deore 591 front mech the shimano literature states that it is for a 50mm chainline is this to the mid ring of the chainset or outer?
How much can you deviate from this without problems arising.

It should be for the mid ring on a triple or between the rings for a double. Have a look at Sheldon Brown he gives a lot of detail on chainlines.

Just avoid max crossovers where possible, some bikes/setips cope better than others.
Just try it
