Postage Stamps

As a kid, I read an Enid Blyton story about some children on bicycles, one had a puncture.
They mended it with a stamp!
Can it be done? Has anybody actually done it?
I know that in the old days, kids bikes had big, fat, low pressure tyres. Maybe it could be done THEN, but not now-a-days.

If it was a small enough hole, I suspect any membrane that would seal the hole would do. Stamps of today don't seem porous, and the higher pressure might actually make the repair more effective:
- Higher pressure would reduce relative movement between the tube, tyre, and stamp.
- Tyre reaction against the higher pressure would hold the stamp more securely against the tube.
That said, I've never repaired a puncture with a stamp and I'm not particularly adept at repairing them with a proper repair kit at the roadside!

Would that have been a first class stamp or second?

Are you sure it wasn't a rubber stamp?

We are not talking about building a spaceship - why not give it a go to see?

A postage stamp would not stretch with the tube as it expanded to fill the cavity

in our local countdown shop, puncture reapire kits are 49p, and they must contain at least one and a half patches

I thought the recent increases in the price of stamps were to allow for inflation.
(Sorry about that.)

Both a galaxy and mars would melt and wouldn't hold a puncture. Perhaps a gobstopper would work?
